Smoke & Mirrors

Trip the light fantastic - We fabricated this 10' diameter Art Deco style light fixture for a private home theater. It's made with waterjet cut sheet metal welded into a star pattern.
    Star Power
The open areas are covered with translucent amber mica panels which diffuse the light from internal LEDs to produce a soft glowing effect when the fixture is lit.

Chowdah -  This colossal soup cup is equipped with an internal water-based fogger to simulate steam rising from the chowder. It's just one example of what we have in our bag of tricks.
    Schteamy
It was commissioned by the owner of a local chowder house to adorn the outside of his new restaurant.

Smart as a rock -  These days it seems almost everything has a computer in it; or a touch screen. Our projects are no different. We know how to do that, and if we don’t we call in the guys who used to run the projector in high school. Let’s just say we stay on their good side.
    It’s just smart business
This touch screen resembles a researcher’s notebook on a rock. It’s also a touch screen interactive. Kids love interactive. Actually, kids also love active.

What a glorious feeling…Our ability to work with smoke & mirrors makes us very unique. Our fabrication shop can handle just about anything that doesn’t happen in the other shops. This can include electrical components, mechanisms, lighting effects, fire, water and truly amazing special effects.
    Today’s forecast: delightful
This mock-up was a test for a water feature we created for a mall in Colorado. We built 5 of these 8-foot tall aluminum umbrellas that had shoppers singin’ in the rain...

“Light” years ahead of everyone else - These planets are actually light fixtures for Hong Kong Disneyland. Our painters had to paint them in a dark spray booth while they were illuminated so they could see how they’d look when they were lit.
    Diversity is our edge
We not only had to comply with Hong Kong electrical codes, we had to create access “eyelids” so the Disney cast members can change the light bulbs.

Atmospheric special effect - This 26-foot tall rocket has a "Don't Push!" button next to its launch pad. No one could resist, and each time they pushed the button they saw a blast of liquid nitrogen “exhaust” as if the rocket was about to lift off!
That's what we mean when we say – “Smoke & Mirrors”
The rocket has an inflatable fuselage, fiberglass fins and an aluminum liftoff tower. The base enclosed our liquid nitrogen canisters which were replenished after each day. The inflatable fuselage not only saved on shipping but it set up in a snap!

Big time -  This is one of a number of large working watches we made for Macy*s that really tell time. Not only do the hands rotate accurately, they are also internally illuminated.
    It’s time to shop
We’ve built things with all sorts of motors in them, so things can spin, roll, whirl, rotate slowly and tell time!

Illuminating - Over the years we’ve made light of a lot of things. Actually, we’ve made a lot of things light. Not just weigh less, but illuminate, glow or project video. You can come to us and describe a dream you had and we’ll interpret it for you as a special effect.
    Lighten up
We can not only design and fabricate light fixtures for indoors or out, we can deliver them with a UL sticker on them since that’s quite often required.

Mission control -  What happens behind the scenes is as important as what you see on the outside. We have made environments that are run entirely by a computer. This involves not only a control system, but how the electrical wiring will be run and calculating the power requirements.
Our mission is to exceed your expectations
We’ll research and propose the best energy and longevity solution to keep your power bills down and make changing light bulbs a rare occurrence.

Kid-tested tough -We go to great lengths to be sure that our displays will safely entertain the kids. We even go as far as trying things nobody would be dumb enough to do.
Kids - Don’t try this at home!
You gotta love the fascinating phenomenon of plasma globes. This sort of thing makes Dexter’s Laboratory seem like a real, live cartoon laboratory. “Hey, Brent, stick your tongue on this.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire - This fire effect was achieved with china silk fabric blown with very powerful fans and lit to resemble fire. It’s pretty unusual to see a large fire on a tradeshow floor so they attracted a lot of attention.
    Great bowls of fire!
It’s not as easy as it looks. You’ve seen this effect in small versions, but when the flames are 6-feet tall, that’s a whole other story…

Energetic - There are many interactive activities incorporated into Dexter’s Laboratory at Tooner Field. Everybody knows, kids love science, especially when there is electricity involved!
    3,000 “Kid Friendly” Volts
We also make sure there aren’t 11 people working on a finger puppet and only 2 people building a 45,000 square-foot tradeshow booth. Unless, of course, it’s your finger puppet, then everyone is working on it, and it’s looking fabulous.
